Norwegian Simon Field (Fjeld) has already gained some notoriety in electronic music as one half of Cafe du MIDI, a downtempo/trip hop project he created with fellow Oslo native Jørgen Kirksæther. Songs from their sexually-charged album Pornographic Ear Candy, released in 2012, was featured on a gallery of US television shows including Californication, Ugly Betty and America’s Next Top Model. While the group has been on somewhat of an indefinite hiatus, Field has been producing a number of remixes and a few original tracks in the arena of house and deep house. His second original track, “Gravity, ” was remixed enough times to garner the release of an EP.Gravity Single CD Cover

The Gravity EP is available for sale exclusively on Beatport and features the original “Gravity” and three remixes plus a radio edit. The original track is an 80s-inspired clubkid house track with a sampled organ a’la Crystal Waters’ “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)” and a funkier house beat than more modern versions. His vocalist, acclaimed Easton Davis adds even more early club cache with his 90s-inspired lyrics and vocal tone.

Field also did the “House Edit” and “Classi Remix” versions which appear on Gravity, both more modern, EDM-inspired tracks. The “House Edit” is very much in the realm of deep house, which is territory Field has covered in many of his other remixes. The “Classi Remix” is a more hard-faced electro house track with some very heavy mechanical-sounding samples and a hard bassline. The third remix was done by Lars Van Dalen and Mike Moorish and is a classic and very ravey tech house track, for which there is both a club and a radio edit.

Simon Field’s Gravity is a tour through the sub-genres of house, and spans some of its history as well. He’s managed with this EP to show the versatility of house music and cater to a number of different audiences including 80s club kids, 90s ravers and modern EDM fans. Along with the EP on Field’s Beatport page via the player below, many of his previous tracks are available through Beatport’s Soundcloud links, some of which are available for free download. He will be touring later in the year and fans can check out his website for dates.
