After spending 2015 on the road in support of their Sophomore album Smoke + Mirrors, Imagine Dragons aim to please those selected few that missed their performance with a one night only intimate engagement in theatres March 2nd. Presented by Fathom Events, CinemaLive and Eagle Vision, the four-piece act from Las Vegas will debut on the silver screen with ‘Imagine Dragons in Concert: Smoke + Mirrors’ filmed live before 15, 000 spectators in Toronto.
‘Smoke + Mirrors’ live was captured on 4K and Dolby Atmos giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy the film with a 360-degree sound experience and crystal clear images. The film without question captures the raw essence of a their performance. Front man Dan Reynolds quickly acknowledged the special engagement by informing the audience of their cinematic intent. Contrary to other theatre release styles, Imagine Dragons focus specifically on the live event without any documentary transitions or backstage halts. By doing so, viewers can envision the experience and ambience of the crowd while lounging in the audience.
Over ninety minutes of their extensive hit catalog is featured on screen. Popular singles ‘Gold, Demons, I Bet My Life’ and ‘Radioactive’ carry the stamina from start to finish. A hidden gem also appeared with the live debut of ‘Thief, ’ performed for the first time ever. Aside from fan favorite songs, they balance a healthy dose of solo interactions with intense guitars and tribal pounding percussions. The multi angle filming style covers every position of the venue while highlighting the stunning strobes, silhouettes and shadows that united smoothly alongside lasers and fog machines.
Ideally, an extended theatre run would suit perfectly with dedicated fans worldwide compared to the March 2nd only release but this method compliments the concert mentality perfectly. The worldwide release allows everyone to experience Imagine Dragons at some capacity and leaves fans dreaming about having their five senses satisfied at a venue of their own. This is a must see performance for any Imagine Dragon fan and a great method for someone who has yet to witness the band live.
