Emancipator, moniker for electronic musician Doug Appling, recently released his newest album Baralku out on Loci Records. The Portland-based artist has been producing his iconic blend of classical and electronic arrangements for over a decade since his 2006 debut, Soon It Will Be Cold Enough.

Recognized for merging his childhood training of the violin with synthesis of contemporary electronic soundscapes, Emancipator has crafted yet another intrepid journey through the 14-track LP. “Baralku,” the opening track to Emancipator’s homonymous new album, opens the album with ebullient pops and graceful violin. “Ghost Pong” ventures into a darker corner with chilling refrains and manipulation of rhythmic space and delay. Appling also applies jazzier influences to the album’s midpoint, “Goodness.”

Baralku is currently out now through Appling’s own record label, Loci Records.

Emancipator will begin touring throughout the US on January 30, 2018 with a five-piece ensemble.
