The idea for the benefit was born of the desire to fundraise for two charities that Long and Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES hold close to their hearts. Long has a history with working with the Nicaraguan based Girls Home and introduced Mayberry to the organization. The home is for at risk youth females ages 4 to 18 who are born into poverty, often coming from homes affected by drug addiction or prostitution. Funded exclusively by charitable donations and run by the Madre Albertina order of nuns who protect and educate these girls in order for them to have a chance of a better life.

US-based No Kid Hungry works to provide kids in need with nutritious foods, and families in those communities with cooking skills to prepare healthy foods. Long discovered them after watching a documentary on food insecurity in the United States.

Explaining the idea behind the benefit Long said, “The reason I’m so excited about this concert and so grateful to the artists who are donating their valuable time and talent is because I know what a long way it will go – and how much hope it will provide kids who would otherwise be facing a future with so little hope, if any.”

Speaking about her band’s participation in the event, Lauren Mayberry from CHVRCHES says,

“I learned about the Girls Home from Justin and wanted to help by doing the thing I know how to do best – putting on a gig. We were so touched at how many of our friends jumped on the bill without hesitation and I am excited that this event, for two great causes, will be the first show CHVRCHES has played in over a year.

Both the Girls Home and No Kid Hungry are groups that really make a tangible difference in children’s lives and, in the current global political climate, it feels more important than ever to be engaged and get involved with organisations who work on a grass roots level to help communities.”
