Actor Justin Long and CHVRCHES vocalist Lauren Mayberry have had their minds on philanthropy for some time. Girls Home, for instance, is a charity near and dear to both Long and Mayberry. Ever since Long became acquainted with the non-profit’s mission of protecting and educating Nicaraguan young females who may become affected by drug addiction or prostitution, both him and Mayberry have thought about raising awareness and donations. “I learned about the Girls Home from Justin and wanted to help by doing the thing I know how to do best – putting on a gig,” Mayberry states.
Long and Mayberry will be hosting A Holiday Variety Show on December 13th, 2017 at the Henry Fonda Theater. Members of CHVRCHES, Death Cab For Cutie, Computer Games, Muna, and many more will be playing live sets. Comedians like Pete Holmes, Nick Kroll, and Cameron Esposito will be sharing the stage as well.
Money raised will also support US-based non-profit No Kid Hungry, which aims to provide nutritious foods to kids and families in need. Long learned about their cause after watching a documentary on food insecurity in the US.
“Both the Girls Home and No Kid Hungry are groups that really make a tangible difference in children’s lives and, in the current global political climate, it feels more important than ever to be engaged and get involved with organizations who work on a grass roots level to help communities,” shares Mayberry.
